Solscouter is a free solar comparison and advice website run by Mohab Rahouma, operating as Solscouter ("we," "us"). This policy explains what information we collect, why, and who sees it.
Who we are and how we earn money
Free for you. We're paid by the solar company if you sign up through us. We recommend a company based on your answers, not on what we are paid. Contact us at help@solscouter.us.
Information we collect
- Survey answers: state, ZIP code, whether you own or rent, your solar situation, average electric bill range, roof age, shade, goals, preferred payment method, and credit range (a self-reported range, not a credit check).
- Contact and home details you enter: full name, home address, phone number, and email address.
- Electric bill details: your electric company and the amount of your bills.
- Bill image (optional): a photo or PDF of your electric bill, if you choose to upload one. A bill can show your name, address, account number and usage, so you may cover your account number first. You can skip the upload.
- Your chat with Scout: if you use the chat instead of the form, the messages you type, and the details you give in them.
- Appointment request: the times you prefer and your time zone. A specialist confirms the final time.
- Consent record: that you agreed to be contacted, the exact wording you saw, and when.
- Basic technical data: our hosting provider may log your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit. Your browser also stores your answers and your display preference on your own device while you use the site. We do not currently use advertising cookies or analytics tools. If that changes, we will update this policy.
Your form answers stay in your browser until you press the final submit button. If you leave before pressing it, nothing is sent to us.
Scout, our AI guide
Scout is an automated AI assistant, not a person. It can make mistakes, and its estimates are typical market ranges, not quotes. The chat is provided by Botpress. It loads only after you press the button agreeing to it, and your messages are processed by Botpress and by the AI service it uses so Scout can reply. Please don't share anything sensitive in the chat, such as card numbers, passwords or government ID numbers. If you tell Scout your contact details so we can arrange an appointment, we treat them like details entered in the form.
Roof and bill look-ups
To estimate your system size we may send your address to Google (Maps and Solar services) to see your roof, and may use Google to read the text on a bill image you upload. We use these results only to prepare your estimate and appointment.
How we use your information
- To show you results and a recommendation based on your answers.
- To contact you about the appointment you requested, by call, text and email.
- To pass your details to the solar company we recommend, so it can arrange your appointment and give you a quote.
- To keep records of leads and consent, to prevent misuse, and to run and improve the site.
Who we share it with
- The solar company we recommend for you, and the specialist who attends your appointment, for the appointment you requested. Right now, requests are first received by us and then passed to a specialist. They receive your contact details, address, bill amounts and any bill image you uploaded.
- Other solar companies, only if you opt in. You can choose to also receive offers from other companies. If you don't opt in, we don't share your details with them.
- Service providers that work for us: Google (receives your submission, stores it in a private Google Sheet and Drive folder, sends notification email, and provides the address and bill look-ups), Botpress (the Scout chat), Netlify (website hosting) and Cloudflare (our domain and email forwarding). They handle your information only to provide their service to us, under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Legal or safety reasons, if required by law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Each solar company handles the information it receives under its own privacy policy.
Calls and texts (TCPA consent)
When you tick the consent box or press the consent button and send your request, you agree to be contacted by call, text and email about solar, including with automated technology, at the number and email you provided. Consent is not a condition of buying anything. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP to any text to opt out, or tell us on a call or by email. See also our Terms of Use.
How long we keep it
We keep lead details, chat records, bill images and consent records for up to 24 months, then delete them, unless the law requires us to keep something longer. You can ask us to delete your information, including your bill image, at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information, or to stop contacting you, by emailing help@solscouter.us. We will reply within 45 days. Depending on where you live (for example California or Texas), you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, such as the right to know what we hold, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of sale or targeted advertising. We do not sell your information or use it for targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Notification emails sent through Gmail are not encrypted end to end, and a Drive link in an email can be forwarded, so we keep bill images out of the email body and only link to them.
Children
This site is not for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy and will change the date above when we do.
